output to tape problems

I am trying to output to tape (print to video). It is only a 1 minute trailer
which is in mini hd and so is the output tape.
The camera I am using is the Digital HD Video Camera -
HVR-AIE Sony.

When I rewind my efforts I am only able to hear the sound
and not view the footage...and I find that as it is being recorded
there is a lag between the sound that is going in and
the sound in the camera.

There must be something that has not been set properly
in FCP or on the camera - but i can't get my head
around what this could be??
