DNxHD to FCP
These codecs are not native to FCP. As for playing in QuickTime but not exporting, I'm not sure, but they obviously aren't completely native or you'd be able to use QT Pro to export to another format. From your Avid, I would export out into a quicktime format friendly to fcp. Not an Avid editor myself, but see if you can choose the apple animation codec, or dvcpro hd or something else native to fcp.

Hi Andrew,
I agree with Andrew Balis. The QT-wrapped DNxHD codec released for public use by Avid do not have the same functionality as the MXF-wrapped DNxHD codecs used natively on Avid editing systems. They are "light" versions, allowing you to view DNxHD video in QT player. Sometimes they don't even play in QuickTime either, unless you open them using the "Open using Rosetta" function in QuickTime.
The best way to deal with DNxHD files is to convert them to a regular QT codec straight from the Avid.
Best wishes,
Ronny
