Applications crash after Quicktime 7.5.5 update
Several users have had problems with the latest quicktime update that was released with iTunes 8. When users launch several image/graphics-related applications the applications crash.
In addition to these applications crashing as described, users have also had problems with video playback, with applications such as quicktime player or DVD player hanging after a few seconds of play. This is also the case with Elgato TV tuner software, where users can scroll or fast-forward through video content but cannot play live TV.
This problem occurs despite users' attempts at repairing permissions and rebooting the computer. It's curious that this problem seems to happen with some applications but not others that use quicktime. Still, users have found that reinstalling the quicktime update has fixed the issue.
Fix: Reinstall the QuickTime update This problem has been successfully fixed by users reapplying the quicktime update. The manual updater is available here. It is recommended that users download the update and then boot into Safe mode by holding the shift key at startup. When the computer loads, run a permissions fix on the hard drive with Disk Utility and then apply the update. When this is completed, restart the computer and boo
