Panasonic HC-X900

Panasonic HC-X900 (April 29, 2012 03:48AM) Marco
Hi Ken,

With the new Panasonic HC-X900 you can record video in: AVCHD 1920x1080/50p , AVCHD 1920x1850/50i and 1440x1080/50i and also iFrame. What are the advantages using iFrame in FCP?
Cheers
Marco

Marco,

I don't know what Panasonic means by iFrame.

An iFrame in a long GOP codec is the first frame of the GOP and it is the only frame in the GOP that contains all of the video information.

Maybe the Panasonic web site will spell out what they mean. (or not)

It looks like a term that Panasonic Marketing made up.

I have no idea what it means but I think that you need to find out before purchasing.

Ken
I have the camera since yesterday :) And this is what it shows in the inspector: 960x540. Is it the "new" Panasonic standard?

That sounds like a frame size for YouTube (or something).

It is not a standard editing frame size.

Thanks Ken, probably I will not use it to often and stay with AVCHD 1920x1080/50p. Btw, it's a great 3MOS camera.
cheers

Marco,
i have FCS 2 (FCP 6.0.6) and i woul like to buy an AVCHD 1920x1080/50p cam (Pana HC-V700).
I would shot 50p since i want to make better slow motion.
I've read that there is some troubles in managing the 50p that need to be transcoded in ProRes 422LT before editing.
How do you manage your worklflow ?
Do you think that i need to upgrade to FCP 7.03 (FCS 3) ?
Thanks in advance
