Flash files

Quick question. I use Episode Pro for encoding. I have a client that needs flash files for their web page. I had sent them an flv. because that is supposed to be the file when imbedding flash video. They came back and said that they couldn't play the flle and that they needed a swf. file.

Here is my dilemma . Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it was always my understanding that flv files are to be used when imbedding a flash file for use in a web site, and swf files are to be used when all you want to do is play them since flv files can't be played in a regular flash player. Am I wrong on this?
