PAL to NTSC conversion

PAL to NTSC conversion (September 27, 2008 03:43PM) chris
I recently had a crew in England shoot some interviews for me. They shot on mini-DV tape in PAL, and I now have the tapes here in the States. I've done some research and found a wide range of of offerings from $15 up to $180 to convert a 60 minute tape.

I'm guessing that there may be some quality differences reflected in these prices, and wonder if anyone has a source that is reliable and fair. I want the best quality - but have 5 tapes, which will be a problem at the high end price.

Thanks,
Chris

Are you suggesting that the video can be captured from my NTSC camera, even though it looks like crap? That would be fantastic...

No, you would have to capture it using a PAL camera/deck. The DRS 11 can read both NTSC and PAL.

Ken, I found a friend with a DSR-25. We switched it to PAL and could view the tapes, but there was quite a bit of artifacting and banding, as well as intermittent audio. The tapes are mini dv, and the owner of the deck said that he has problems like that even with NTSC mini dv tapes.

Are you viewing it on a PAL monitor?
