Lacie 500GB Invalid Node Problem (September 28, 2008 03:12AM) Len Thomas
Hi All,

I have a G5 Powermac with two Lacie 500GB External Firewire Hard Drives I use for my video editing on FCP and they have now failed me by not mounting on startup and coming up with the Invalid Node message when I go into Disk Utility using the First Aid section it states it cannot repair them... As is always the case I have wedding work on them that I must get out ASAP and because I used the two of them one to lay original footage and edit, the other was a backup so to speak. Is buying DiskWarrior my only hope to try and get me out of this problem or, is there something else I can try.

Please tell me that all hope is not lost.....

Quick answers and help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Len Thomas,
U. K.

Hi Len,

Disk Warrior can often see drives that Disk Utility can not.

Thanks Ken. But is Disk Warior the only way to go to try to recover or has anyone else had the same problem and found another way?

Please let me know.

Cheers,

Disk Warrior does sometimes see drives that Disk Utilities can not.

Did both drive fail to mount at the same time. If so, it's probably not the drives. Disconnect the drives, Repair Permissions and then attach just one drive to the Mac and see if it mounts. If not, try the other drive by itself.

If so, this could be a system problem on your boot drive.

If you have another Mac, try plugging one drive into it.

Testing the drive on a different Mac should help identify the problem.

Do the drives show up in the Apple system profiler?
Have you tried mounting via the USB port?

Hi Alexander,

Yes they do show up under the system profiler under the heading Hardware, Firewire and it shows the two fo them.

I have not tried mounting them via USB is it worth doing that?

I am still desperate to recover them in order to get Wedding etc out. Heeeeeeeeeeelp.........

Cheers,
Len.
