Trashing preferences

I am working in FCP 7. My Mac is OS 10.95.
My Mac crashes repeatedly when I open FCP7. I want to trash my preferences - I'm assuming this might resolve the problem. I can't find info on the procedure with OS 10.95 and FCP 7.
Any suggestions or links I missed?
