I am about to take delivery on a DJI Phantom 4Pro. The specs show that one of it's video recording options is H.265. A Google search leads me to believe that H.265 has many advantages over it's predecessor but for FCPX to recognize it must be converted.
My questions are; has anyone used it in Final Cut X and were there advantages in using it?
Thank you and Merry Christmas

I think the only thing on a Mac that can open H.265 stuff is VLC. FCPX will have nothing to do with it. Tried MKV and MP4 H.265 files. Contact Apple and tell them to consider supporting modern codecs. I would stick with H.264 until H.266 comes around. By then Apple will support H.265.

Thanks for the response Joe.
Brorsoft @#$%& will convert it also for $36.00. I am wondering if there is any advantage in shooting and converting i.e.. better quality picture.
Well I imagine it's more efficient. Better picture at any given bitrate.

To my (modest) knowledge H.265 is "the H.264" for 4K - so if you edit / produce in this resolution, you might require it.
Further details I don't know yet as I still struggle with an even somewhat outdated HD gear.
But one day... (national lottery??).
Best regards!
