ATA 500gb Buffer for Capture 8mb or 16mb (June 26, 2008 10:50AM) Trig Simon
Hi Ken,

Know you don't like WD, but I want to change an order if if it makes a difference capturing video.

I think the 8mb refers to the buffer on a ATA-100 drive I just bought on line. But, now I see they have a ATA-100 with 16mb buffer.

Should I change the order or is 8mb enought? This will be used as internal HD on my G4 for capture, then moved to external enclosure to use on my Mac Pro.

Thanx,
Trig

Hi Trig,

Well, we ran for years with drives that had no buffer whatsoever. What is the price difference between the two?

About the same price. But I really screwed up now. 8mb was $80, the 16mb was 84. But when I was callling to change the order, I saw a 16mb for $80, thought it would be easier to exchange, so got that. Now I see it is a SATA, and my MacPro is all full of those.

Can a G4 be switched to SATA? What about SATA card, for an external SATA Dock? I know I have been told not to capture to external, but maybe things have changed?

Hate it when I get in a hurry.

Hi Ben,

Truth be told, I don't remember. I do know that ATA drives are history.
