streamclip (September 22, 2010 11:32AM) Martin Sayles
Hi,

This happen to anyone? I'm using streamclip to rip a dvd. I go OPEN FILES>VTS_01_1.VOB>OPEN. i GET "File open error: the first part of the file is not valid" and choose "open anyway" or "OK". Click "OK" and nothing happens, click "open anyway" and the audio plays spurraticly with a white screen (no video) then "quits unexpectedly".

Any tips?

Thanks.

In MPEG Streamclip, go to File->Open DVD. When the navigation window opens, choose the DVD's VIDEO_TS folder, then put the window in LIST view. Only choose the VOB files that have adequate size by looking at the file size column.

Note that MPEG Streamclip will NOT work for copy protected DVDs.

David,

My only highlighted choices are OPEN FILES, OPEN URL, and SHOW STREAM INFO.

Even the unhighlighted ones, there is no OPEN DVD.

Try Open Files, then navigate to the DVD's VIDEO_TS folder for the VOB files.

Yes, that's what I tried earlier with the results I first mentioned. I have been given permission to use this, but I don't know if or how to find out if it is copy protected, if that is why I'm not getting an image.

Try this: when you insert the DVD into your computer, if it starts playing automatically, close DVD Player. Open Streamclip and drag the dvd disc icon from your desktop into Streamclip. You should be able to now play it, rip it, etc.

"File open error: unsupported file type" and choose "open anyway" or "OK". Click "OK" and nothing happens, click "open anyway" and then it says "File open error: can't find video or audio tracks."

I should mention there is a menu with chapters, could that be an issue?

OK, time for the stupid question: does it play in your dvd player?

Also take a look at 'HandBrake' (free), contains 'Mac the Ripper'.
